Communication is Key
When the details change, make sure everyone is on the same page, especially your moving company. Perhaps you decide that there’s no time after all to pack all your belongings yourself, or maybe your eldest child asks to move back into your house just before your move! If you have moving surprises come up before your move date, your Seattle moving company representative is just a phone call away.
Pack Wardrobe Boxes Early
While you don’t want to pack all your clothing a month before your move, taking the time a week in advance to pack up your less-used or seasonal clothing items will make your moving day move faster. We recommend that you plan your outfits in advance to make sure you don’t pack away all your extra underwear before your trip.
Leave Your Dresser Drawers Full
Are you surprised by this? Seattle movers transport heavy items professionally, so as long as you don’t store your extensive meteorite collection or your backstock of lead fishing weights in your dresser drawers, you can go ahead and leave those full for your movers to pack away as-is. And if it is too heavy when moving day comes around, your movers will remove the drawers and pack them up separately.
Take Your Valuables Separately
We always recommend shipping or packing and traveling with your valuables separately from the rest of your move. Mountain Moving & Storage does not move valuables such as jewelry or money in our trucks, but some moving companies might not have a policy strictly prohibiting these items. Make sure to discuss this with your Seattle moving company, or wherever you might be moving, and plan to make room in your cars or luggage for your valuable items.
Plan Your Future Furniture Layout Before Moving
If you know exactly where your furniture will live in your new home, your movers can drop it off in that spot while your move is happening, saving you time and energy trying to move your heavy furniture after the fact. This can save you both time and money at the end of your move. And if you can prevent the mover from having to move the same piece several times, you’ll save valuable time on your moving bill.
Does Your Homeowners Insurance Cover Moving?
Many homeowner’s insurance plans cover moves. Check with your insurance company to see. This can save you from valuing your belongings with your moving company’s insurance.
Check Your State’s Tax Code
Could your move be a tax write-off? There are various incentive programs in states and cities around the country that provide you with a tax break for moving to their neighborhoods. It’s always a great idea to check with a local tax professional to see where you might be able to save money by deducting moving costs this tax season.Download Your Guide to a Stree-Free Move!
